Welcome to Eglin Air Force Base! Eglin is the world’s largest forested military reservation and serves as a one-of-a-kind test and training complex supporting a variety of disciplines across multiple branches of our military since 1937. With nearly 255,000 acres open to conditional public access, the Eglin Reservation offers a variety of recreational pursuits including hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, disc golf, bird watching, and kayaking to name a few. The Eglin Natural Resources Office, known as Jackson Guard, is responsible for the conservation and sustainable management of Eglin’s unique habitats and wildlife populations. It further manages the multitude of recreational opportunities available to both civilians and military personnel, all while ensuring compatibility with Eglin’s military mission. All reservation users must understand that recreational access to the Eglin Reservation is a PRIVILEGE, not a right, and comes second to the military mission.
An Eglin recreation permit is required for ALL outdoor recreation activities and is required for DoD-affiliated individuals as well as non-DoD civilians. A military ID or Common Access Card (CAC) alone DOES NOT permit recreational access on the reservation. Recreation permit options can be viewed HERE. By purchasing a recreation permit, users agree to know their location at all times and follow the current Eglin AFB Outdoor Recreation, Hunting, and Freshwater Fishing Regulations Handbook, which can be viewed HERE.
Recreational access is dictated by the military test and training mission. Therefore reservation users MUST check the Public Access Map (PAM) daily and abide by all permanent and temporary closures. The PAM should be checked periodically throughout the day for closure updates. The PAM can be viewed HERE.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT RECREATION ON MAIN BASE:
Jackson Guard manages outdoor recreation on all portions of Eglin AFB outside of Main Base, as well as hunting and fishing opportunities within the Main Base footprint. All other outdoor recreation, to include vessel rentals and FAMCAMP, within the Main Base footprint is managed by the 96 Force Support Squadron (FSS). Click HERE for information on the 96 FSS and opportunities offered.
